How can you terminate a pregnancy

Their are some ways by which you can terminate pregnancy, by taking abortion medications or by some surgical methods if the pregnancy is of less week it could easily get terminated by abortion pills. Abortion pills is the most safest and easy way for terminate a pregnancy.

1. By using abortion pills:

How to use a abortion pill to terminate pregnancy:

The “abortion pill” is the generic name for two different drugs used to terminate a pregnancy: mifepristone and misoprostol.

  • First you take a pill called mifepristone. A hormone called progesterone is needed for the pregnancy to grow normally. Mifepristone blocks the body’s own progesterone, thereby halting the progression of the pregnancy.
  • You will then take another medicine, misoprostol, either immediately or up to 48 hours later. This medicine causes cramps and bleeding to empty your uterus.
  • It’s like having a really heavy, crampy period, and the process is akin to an early miscarriage. If you do not have any bleeding within 24 hours of taking the second medicine, contact your nurse or doctor.

Abortion pills are only used for pregnancy for up to 12 weeks pregnant above that time period surgical method is preferable.

Time when to administer a abortion pill:

  • At 8 weeks pregnant or less, it works about 94-98% of the time.
  • At 8-9 weeks pregnant, it works about 94-96% of the time.
  • At 9-10 weeks pregnant, it works about 91-93% of the time.
    • If you take an extra dose of misoprostol, it works about 99% of the time.
  • At 10-11 weeks pregnant, it works about 87% of the time.
    • If you take an extra dose of misoprostol, it works about 98% of the time.

2. By surgical method:

Most abortions are performed using ‘suction (vacuum) aspiration’ or ‘suction curettage’. To have this procedure you must be in the first trimester of pregnancy (first 3 months or 12 weeks).

Your cervix is gradually dilated with rods of increasing size and then a thin tube is inserted into your uterus. The pregnancy (fetus and placenta) is withdrawn with gentle suction. Another instrument called a curette is used to check whether the uterus is empty or not.

During an abortion, it is also safe to have a contraceptive device, such as an intrauterine device (IUD) or contraceptive implant (Implanon NXT) inserted if you wish.

This operation takes less than 15 minutes.

As surgical method is much more costly. The cost of a surgical procedure of termination of pregnancy in India comes around 20,000 – 40,000 INR. The minimum cost of an abortion can be as low as 20,000 INR and can go at a maximum of 40,000 INR.

3.Pregnancy could also be terminated by home remedies (but it is not recommended).

Home remedies such as some foods which could leads to termination of pregnancy:

  • Smoked seafood
  • Sprouted Potato
  • Papaya
  • Pineapple

Home remedies are not that much efficient and in very less cases it shows the result so it is not recommended by the doctors to do home remedies because of its toxicity issues and many other infectious problems.
