We’re going to talk about what to do to help with morning sickness I chose this topic today because morning sickness is something that so many women who were pregnant are dealing with on a daily basis.
This is something that I’ve been dealing with too so if you’re struggling with morning sickness remember you’re not alone millions of women and myself included know exactly how you feel help with morning sickness including now nausea either with or without vomiting is so common in the early weeks of pregnancy.
It is considered normal to have nausea and often reassuring now my mom used to tell me that as long as I’m still feeling nauseated that the baby is probably okay now that’s not entirely an accurate statement.
Why nausea and vomiting happen:
Only about 90% of women get nausea during their pregnancy so that means 10% of women might never have any nausea or vomiting throughout their pregnancy at all.
Now in a minute we’re gonna get into what you can do to help with the morning sickness but first let’s talk about why we even get it so morning sickness usually begins around 4 to 6 weeks of pregnancy and can even worsen over the next month or so.
But don’t worry for most women it goes away after the first trimester so somewhere around 12 to 14 weeks you should start to see improvement believe it or not the exact cause of morning sickness isn’t known but there are several theories that I think probably have melded.
One theory is that the nausea and vomiting is your body’s response to the very quick rise in the pregnancy hormone called HCG another possible cause might be the slowed movements of the stomach content during pregnancy or are simply the increased emotional stress that comes from the pregnancy itself.
How to treat nausea and vomiting in pregnancy
You don’t care what causes it you care about how to get rid of it first try adjusting your lifestyle a little bit for starters try to drink more water staying hydrated is really important.
You don’t want to overfill your stomach all at once so frequent small sips throughout the day will help you stay hydrated without over filling your stomach and over full stomach can make morning sickness worse.
If you do drink a large glass of water try to do it thirty minutes before or thirty minutes after a meal so you don’t overfill your stomach during Meal Time make sure to eat a small snack if you start to feel nauseated.
An empty stomach can trigger the symptoms of nausea it’s best to keep a snack on you at all times so that you have something to munch on if you start to feel nauseated this includes night time try to keep something easy and mess-free by your bed at night in case you wake up in the middle of the night with nausea.
Each woman quickly learns that certain foods tend to cause nausea we call these triggers start to recognize your triggers and then modify your diet accordingly figure out what foods work the best for you and then stick with those.

What triggers nausea:
While every woman is different some common food triggers are coffee spicy foods very smelly foods, acidic foods, fatty foods and sometimes very sweet foods.
Many women tend to tolerate protein rich foods dry foods bland foods or salty foods for me I survived off of life cereal for the first three months of my pregnancy not suggesting that that’s just the only thing that tasted good to me.
Along with food triggers there are some environmental triggers that tend to cause a morning sickness as well these triggers might include like a stuffy room really strong orders like perfumes or cigarette smoke or chemical smells heat humidity loud noises sudden movements.
Some women have worsening nausea if they are driving in a car at night and there’s a lot of lights flashing by them in addition to all of that not getting enough sleep or lying down right after meal might also worsen.
Pretty much everything that you’re doing in your life could make it worse now what you can do to help cold foods tend to be tolerated better because they have less odor and there’s easier preparation brushing your teeth right after a meal might help with nausea as well as improve your dental care.
